When the Fraser team had the idea of pairing 6’7” tall professional athletes with 4- and 5-year-olds to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday, we knew the result would be adorable. We worked hard to ensure it was equally as impactful.
The important work Fraser does with First 5 California is to help raise awareness amongst parents and caregivers about the power of talking, reading, and singing with children at the earliest ages and the impact that will have on their successful futures. By partnering with high-profile athletes, teams, and sports media networks, we create community engagements that are not only memorable, but help spread our Talk. Read. Sing.® message to new and even wider audiences.
On March 2, 2018 in Sacramento, California, Fraser worked with First 5 California and The Sacramento Kings to create a reading celebration with local preschoolers. First 5 California, with the help of First 5 Sacramento, identified Robla Preschool to host our event and with it, over 250 enrolled preschoolers, and their parents, eager to participate in our visit.
Anticipating a high-level of energy and the need to keep 250 preschoolers entertained for 60 full minutes, Fraser worked with the Kings to increase their level of participation. Former NBA player and current Kings TV analyst Doug Christie conducted story time with the children. Kings President of Business Operations, John Rinehart, ran a Dr. Seuss inspired guessing game and the Kings “Breakers” performed break-dancing for an awestruck audience. The Kings, First 5 California, First 5 Sacramento and Fraser staff all joined in leading the children in music and singing to round out our celebration.
Just one week later, on March 9, 2018, Fraser conducted a similar reading celebration, but this time in a much more intimate setting in Watts, California. Partnering with Fox Sports West / Prime Ticket, Fraser arranged for former NBA star and current LA Clippers TV analyst Bruce Bowen to visit Imperial Courts Head Start to read and do arts-and-crafts with a very special group of 15 preschoolers.
Not only did all the children, parents, and caregivers we visited with in Sacramento and Watts have a great time and an experience they’ll never forget, but the message was clearly delivered and documented on film for more to see. In Sacramento, the visit was picked up by KCRA, KFBK, and KOVR morning and evening news programs with interviews about First 5 California and its Talk. Read. Sing.® initiative. Fox Sports West filmed their visit and aired it on their “Clippers Weekly” program a total of 12 times throughout that week. You can watch the segment here:
