Think Again: Our Life-Saving Fentanyl Awareness Initiative with Ventura County Healthcare
As the CEO of Fraser Communications, I've been privileged to lead a team that crafts impactful health campaigns, but our collaboration with Ventura County Public Health on fentanyl awareness stands out as particularly important.
This initiative wasn't just about spreading information; it was about fundamentally changing how the community perceives and responds to the fentanyl crisis—a crisis that touches every corner of every neighborhood.

Recognizing the Reality
In Ventura County, like many places across the country, there's a pervasive "not in my backyard" mentality regarding fentanyl. Many believe it’s an issue distant from their own lives.
Our campaign, contracted by Ventura County Public Health, was designed to shatter this illusion. With the stark "Think Again" campaign, we used bold visuals and urgent messaging to convey a critical reality: fentanyl is not only close to home, but it’s also a clear and present danger.
Strategy and Execution: "Think Again"
The cornerstone of our strategy was the visually arresting "Think Again" theme, highlighted in red and black to capture immediate attention. We presented the community with harrowing statistics—over 200 deaths in the county linked to fentanyl—to underscore the severity of the issue.
A crucial part of our message was the revelation that 85% of seized drugs in the area contained fentanyl. This fact broadens the risk from habitual drug users to anyone—including those who casually use recreational or counterfeit drugs thinking they’re managing something as mundane as knee pain.
Expanding the Conversation
Our campaign went beyond highlighting risks, focusing also on the normalization of proactive measures and available treatments. We emphasized medically assisted treatments for opioid addiction, which are accessible through insurance, offering a hopeful path for those caught in the cycle of addiction.
By positioning this treatment option prominently, we encouraged individuals and families to consider secure, medical pathways to recovery rather than risk the dangers of unregulated substances.
Engaging the Community
Our call to action, "think again,” was an important message about the hidden prevalence of fentanyl in every community — even in the ones you don’t expect. It was about empowering residents with knowledge and urging vigilance in drug safety and consumption.
Launching this campaign was a reaffirming moment in the power of healthcare education outreach. It demonstrated that with the right approach, even the most daunting public health challenges can be addressed effectively. The response from the community has been one of increased awareness and engagement, showing that our messages have not only been heard but are also catalyzing real change.
